Valley Surgeon Performs Hip Replacement Surgery with Fast Recovery, Less Pain
Dr. Jimmy Chow only surgeon in Arizona to perform SuperPATH® tissue-preserving hip replacement surgery
PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 27, 2010) – Patients nationwide are traveling to Phoenix to have a revolutionary hip replacement surgery: the SuperPATH® tissue-preserving technique, performed by Dr. Jimmy Chow, M.D. at St. Luke’s Medical Center. Whereas the recovery from traditional hip replacement surgery can take months, this new technique shortens the recovery time to a matter of weeks in most cases.
Dr. Chow, a hip and knee replacement surgeon with the AZ Center for Bone & Joint Disorders is one of five surgeons nationwide (and the only surgeon in Arizona) to regularly perform the SuperPATH technique. This technique builds a traditional hip implant in place, without having to cut any muscles or tendons. This is done without having to dislocate or relocate the hip during the surgery, a common element to all other hip replacement surgery techniques. Potential advantages include shorter recovery time, less pain and a more natural feeling hip.
“Historically, hip replacement surgery has been an invasive surgical procedure with a long recovery time,” said Dr. Chow. “With SuperPATH, we spare the surrounding soft tissue, which enables patients to heal quickly and results in fewer post-operative limitations. Most patients can leave the hospital within 24 hours of the procedure.”
Additionally, the SuperPATH approach can be customized for each patient’s needs.
“Unlike most other minimally invasive techniques, the SuperPATH approach is an adjustable approach, allowing for appropriate surgical implantation regardless of most deformities,” Dr. Chow said.
