St. Luke’s Medical Center Announces New Burn Center Officially Open
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Oct. 3, 2011) – St. Luke’s Medical Center announced that The Grossman Burn Center at St. Luke’s Medical Center officially opened and is accepting patients as of today, Monday, Oct. 3.
Developed in conjunction with Grossman Burn Centers in California, the new burn center specializes in a multidisciplinary approach that seeks to provide life-saving medical care and restore patients to as close to their pre-injury condition as possible – functionally, emotionally and cosmetically.
The state-of-the-art center offers comprehensive burn care in a nurturing, compassionate environment to patients of all ages – infants to adults. In addition to critical care and reconstructive surgical treatment of burns, the hospital will also offer burn-related services, including: inpatient intensive and intermediate care, outpatient burn services, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, psychology services and rehabilitation.
The center operates under the direction of Grossman Burn Centers medical director, Dr. Peter H. Grossman. It will be managed on a day-to-day basis by Robert G. Bonillas, M.D., and Anthony A. Admire, M.D., and staffed by physicians on the medical staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center trained in restorative burn care. In addition, 40 new staff positions were created to launch the burn center, including: nurses, burn technicians, a clinical educator, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, a child-life specialist and a program coordinator.
Existing space has been refurbished to create the new burn ICU unit, a family care area and hydrotherapy center. The total square footage of the new area combined is 4,355 sq. ft. In addition, hyperbaric oxygen therapy will be available for both inpatients and outpatients in the Arizona Wound Center located on the hospital campus.
