Arizona Orthopedic Education Foundation and
St. Luke’s Medical Center host Stryker Orthopaedics National Symposium
May 1 event to feature live surgical broadcasts, presentations and case discussions
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Apr. 28, 2009) – Featuring medical education on breakthrough technology for orthopedic surgeons, the Arizona Orthopedic Education Foundation and St. Luke’s Medical Center will host the Stryker Orthopaedics National Symposium this Friday, May 1.
Live closed-circuit broadcasts of two surgeries—a primary hip replacement and a primary knee replacement—using state-of-the-art surgical techniques and prostheses from Stryker Orthopaedics will create the focal point for presentations, panel discussions and case studies. These new procedures and prostheses take into consideration female anatomy, are designed for more natural movement and demonstrate greater potential for implant longevity than previous methods.
The symposium will be held in the hospital’s Pritzlaff Auditorium, a multimedia conference room specially designed for live surgical broadcasts. The event program will be led by two nationally-renown orthopedic surgeons and educators: Program Chair Anthony K. Hedley, MD, FRCS of the Arizona Institute for Bone and Joint Disorders; and Key Moderator, David A. McQueen, MD of Kansas Joint and Spine Institute and a member of the faculty of Kansas University School of Medicine.
For 15 years, Dr. Hedley and Stryker Orthopaedics have collaborated to host annual and semi-annual education symposiums designed to keep orthopedic surgeons informed of the latest techniques and technologies in total hip and knee replacement surgery. The success of the program encouraged the formation of the Arizona Orthopedic Education Foundation, and the partnership with St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Arizona’s longest running orthopedics education program of its kind, the symposiums are designed to provide comprehensive training on the latest surgical techniques to orthopedic surgeons from throughout the country.
