Online Tools for Our Physicians
As part of our efforts to provide the best environment for our physicians to practice medicine, St. Luke’s offers a number of useful online services. By signing into St. Luke’s online platform, you can access lab results, patient records, other clinical data and results from the hospital system. You’ll also receive departmental updates and other important information. Once you’re registered, you can access the system securely over the Internet, so you can get the patient information you need wherever you are—the hospital, your office, or even at home.

THOUGHTS FROM THE SLMC CHIEF OF STAFF

When I was first asked to share some thoughts from “The Chief of Staff,” I said “Oh my Gosh.” Next I thought who is going to read this and what should I say! Something motivational…obviously.
The delivery of medicine in this day and age is a complex maze. Physician, Nurses, CNAs and other support staff have to prepare for JCAHO, EMTALA, HIPPA and other state inspections. Being wary not to incur violations and shouldering the responsibilities for Core Measures, Bylaws, Rules, Regulations, policies and procedures, the beat goes on and on. So…how do we successfully navigate these shark-infested waters? Quite simply..”OR NOT”.. “TAKE CARE OF THE PATIENT.” They are frequently the ones left out of the equation, exluded by the static noise of a litigious society. Tying to dot all the I’s and cross all the T’s continuously blurring our focus on patient care.

Don’t get me wrong, all the aforementioned efforts are necessary endeavors in managing cost and compliance, but not at the expense of QUALITY OF CARE.

Peace, Greg Celaya, MD

CEO NOTES – Dolores Horvath

JCAHO survey of the IASIS hospitals went well. All facilitates were graded over 90% compliant with 2 to 3 Type I recommendations. SLBHC did extremely well with 98% and no Type I recommendations. The survey identified the need to improve the use of performance data in the reappointment process and action has been taken to develop a PI team that develop recommendations to improve these processes. Arizona Region facilities had scored higher with JCAHO than any other IASIS market.

Marketing: We will be implementing advertising and public relations programs to support our bariatrics, cardiovascular, radiology and robotic surgical programs.

Chief Operating Officer: A recruiting firm has been engaged to find SLMC a new COO. Two prospects have been screened and they will be here in three (3) weeks for interviews with the medical staff leaders. The COO will be groomed to take over as CEO at a future date and this will me to concentrate on my regional marketing responsibilities.

Chief Nursing Officer: Ms. Dolores Marshall has been hired as the new CNO and she will be starting April 5th. Please plan to attend the reception scheduled for the 5th at 11:30am in Phillips Auditorium.

Emergency Department Renovation: A contract has been signed with Summit Construction and groundbreaking is scheduled for June. The remodel will enlarge the ED to 24 beds and include a larger triage area.

Administrative Offices: The regional administrative offices will be moving from the 4th floor to the newly vacated ground floor suites which will allow for more clinic space in the MOB.

Cardiovascular Services: Karen Bei is the Regional Director of Cardiovascular Services for IASIS Healthcare. Prior to this position, she was the Operating Room Nurse Manager at the Arizona Heart Hospital. She also worked as their hospital educator for three years. Her experience includes 19 years of intensive care nursing, primarily cardiovascular. Karen completed the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Services program at the University of Phoenix, graduating with honors as outstanding student in August 2002 and she will be graduating with a Master's in Business Administration degree in July of this year.

Doctor’s Day: March 31st is National Doctor’s Day in honor of Crawford Long, MD, who discovered ether. There will be a luncheon for the physicians and red carnation buttonaires (the official Doctor’s Day flower).
