St. Luke's Behavioral Health Center was founded in 1969 with a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health as a 20-bed unit on the third floor of St. Luke's Medical Center. The services expanded and moved to a building adjoining St. Luke's Medical Center in the early 1970s. Then in 1981 St. Luke's Behavioral Health Center was opened with 70 licensed beds to treat seniors, adults, adolescents and children requiring psychiatric and chemical dependency care. Fifteen additional beds were added in 2003 to raise the facility’s capacity to 85 beds.

Our philosophy of patient care delivery recognizes each patient as an individual, a member of a family, and a member of a community. We believe each patient has the right to receive quality care, regardless of disability, race, creed, color, sexual orientation or national origin. We respect the individuality and dignity of each patient as reflected in the patient's bill of rights and the patient's right to determine near end-of-life decisions.

We maintain a holistic approach to treatment that addresses each person's physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social needs. Specifically, individualized treatment plans are developed through a collaborative effort between each patient and our caring professionals. We believe this improves each patient's ability to obtain and maintain an optimum level of wellness and reduces the need for future re-entries for acute level hospitalization.
